It's no secret that Bushnell's rights to marketing under the Bausch & Lomb label is expiring (if not already expired).  The recent addition of the Legacy label to the Bushnell binocular line indicated that the line was absorbed with little more than a change of ink on the rubber armor.

Of much more significant interest is the changes to the high-end Elite, Discoverer, and Custom labels.  It appears that to a certain degree, the Custom and Discoverer feature sets were absorbed into enhanced Legend series products although the Custom's themselves were moved in tact to the Bushnell line.  In similar fashion, the B & L Elite label riflescopes became the Bushnell Elites with some minor cosmetic changes and the addition of Firefly technology (roughly the equivalent of adding glow in the dark numerals to a watchface...).

Has anyone heard what's in store for the Bausch & Lomb Elite series binoculars?  Every pair I ever borrowed always appeared difficult to improve upon--perhaps the eye cups or the overall shape or weight could stand some tune up, but it's tough to imagine Bushnell improving upon the optics much.

Their website yields few clues and it's hard to imagine that they would abandon their top-end line altogether.  Is there a chance that anyone's got credible information about whether the line is going through significant overhaul hence the delay in adding the Elites to the Bushnell line?  Or is it more along the lines of they're selling off the high price Bausch & Lomb label inventory on hand prior to bringing it out as Bushnell?

My suspicion it's the latter rather than the former.  Re-packaging the Elites as Bushnell will most likely make it more difficult to get top dollar out of a discontinued line and if they've got a significant amount of inventory on hand, that could get costly.

Is there anyone who knows today?

They only thing Bushnell has revealed so far is that the Elite will move to the Bushnell family.

With all the products that have been renamed Bushnell Elite, I think it's pretty safe to assume that the B&L Elite binoculars will follow the same path. The 2004 Bushnell catalog lists several spotting scopes that previously whore the B&L badge and are now Bushnell cataloged. After all that has been stated regarding concerns of product quality, myself included, I beleive that the outstanding Elite binoculars will remain the same high quality as we have come to expect from the Elite badge.
