I am in the market for a new scope, I specifically want a scope with an illuminated aiming dot that draws your eye to the point of aim especially for running or in poorly illuminated conditions.  I have a NF with NP-1 and the entire reticle glows red, this for me does not achieve the goal of instantly drawing your eye to the aiming point.

The Leupold VX6 2-12 x 42 with firedot is a possibility as is the Zeiss Duralyt 2-8 x 42 illuminated.  Has anyone had a chance to look at these two scopes?  The VX6 with its auto on-off makes you wonder if it will come "on" when needed, I don't want to have to shake the rifle when I am trying to kill a deer.  The Duralyt occular is huge with its buttons and such.  With 90% of my shooting done in the 30 minutes before sunrise and 30 minutes after sunset and some on running game my eyes need help.

Any comments from anyone that has used or reviewed these two would be appreciated.

haven't ran the Duralyt but have the VX6
very good glass, not quite up there with the top Euro stuff but very, very good none the less.
Illuminated reticle works very well being able to be set not too bright for very low light like you describe.

It comes on after going to sleep with no drama...
works great.

is the duplex reticle the same as they use in their standard VX-3 line or thinner?

I read an article in the Field and Stream blog where they found the Duralyt reticlefaster because the top of the scope was clutter free.  On the other hand, the reviewer was at first worried about the number 60 Zeiss as it was finer and would not guide your eye to the center when the red dot is not on. I have this issue with a Kahles now, the fine center is difficult to pick up.
