I have run across this scope, and don't know of anyone who has looked through one or has any experience with it, so thought I would inquire here.  I see these on SWFA, but haven't seen them in the forums before....so, what say you??? How do these compare to Leupold, Sightron, or Nikon in similar lens and power settings?

Regards,

Ron

I believe that the Pentax is the same as the Burris Fullfield II others may know for sure. At any rate it is a good scope and will compare quality and price wise (except Leupold) with the other mentioned. The Leupold VXIII will be more money but still a good scope, just more money than others.

Pentax Lightseeker 8.5-32x50 is, I think, a rebadged Burris Black Diamond.  It is certainly a step above the Fullfield II.

It will be in the same general ballpark as the other scopes you mention optically.  However, I am not aware of any Sightron, Nikon or Leupold scopes that are 8-32x50.  The closest Nikon is a Monarch 6.5-20x50, Sightron is a S3 6-24x50 and Leupold is a VX-3 30mm 8.5-25x50.

If you are set on that magnification range, there is really nothing worthwhile anywhere near the same price range other than the Pentax you are asking about and its clone, Burris Black Diamond.

Thanks, Koshkin! That really helped get me looking in the right place for more info.

I am still curious about the higher powers on the Burris Black Diamond or the Pentax Lightseeker...wonder what the owner's opinions are about clarity and resolution at the upper end, say the 24-32x range of these scopes? I have Sightron II 6-24, Leupy 6.5-20, and Nikon Monarch 6.5-20 that just don't reach that high.

I don't know anyone locally that has either Burris Black Diamonds or Pentax Lightseekers, so, I'm still interested in what owners have to say about their at 24x+ magnifications....my basis of concern is that I still believe "if I can't see it, I can't hit it" and the magnification is a form of compensation for deteriorating eyesight as I get older.  Was thinking of putting one like this on a Ruger #1V in .204 Ruger (where sits now my Sightron II in 6-24x).

Thanks again for the info!

Regards,

Ron

I am not sure what exactly you are shooting at, but aside from some forms of bench shooting I can not think of a situation where 32x offers any real advantage over 24x.  Typically, if you are trying to see better, you may be better off going up in optical quality rather than in magnification.

I passed on the 32x scope, as I didn't see any pressing need for a magnification over the 24x I already had, and neither did anyone else.

Thanks for your opinions! Much appreciated!

Ron
