I just purchased a new Thompson Center Triumph in black with the weather sheild barrel.
Now I am thinking of purchasing a leupold Ultimate Slam in 2-7 power for it.
Does anyone have any experience witht he Ultimate Slams on their muzzel loaders and how they perform at different yardages?
Thanks,

Most of the lower price Leupolds are not that great of glass. I have a Nikon Omega and the glass is marginal on it as well. Im not sure of your price range but will list a few scopes that I think would serve you well with you musket.  Note that if you sight it at 100 using 150 grains of Tripple 7 and a Barnes 250  TMZ you should see about 10 inches drop at 200 yds and if the powder charge is about 120 grains its more like 12 inches drop. Balistic reticles only work at the highest power and most hunting is done at lower powers 6x and below to gather more light in low light conditions and more rapidly acquire the target.  Anyway my muskets have  3-9x40 Nikon Omege, 4.5-14x50 LR VX III, 3-9x40 Mil Dot Sightron. I have hunted with an aimpoint and it is a very nice brush optic it comes on target  very rapidly like the trijicon accupoint does.  Each of these has something special to offer but I think all are a better more useful scope than the Leupold you mentioned. I will note that I tend to hunt from a stand quite often and like more magnification than lots of guys which is why I threw in the 4-16 but the reality is you are only giving up one power on the low end for a huge advantate on the high end. If you hunt brush the aimpoint and the trijicon are the ticket. If you need a basic tool at low cost the sightron is a nice choice just remember to dial down to 6x or lower at dark.

Thanks for the reply.
I hunt mostly from tree stands in the woods. I have a few trails cleared to/from the stands and can probably shoot about 150 -200 yards down the trails.
Another scope I was thinking of is the Leupold VXIII in 1.75 - 6.
Do you have any idea how that might stack up against the Zeiss 1.8 - 5.8?
Thanks,

Between the two, I like the Conquest. I have that same scope on my .30/30. It makes a very good "brush gun" scope. I would consider it for Muzzleloader or slug-gun as well. You will not be sorry with the Zeiss!
