Hey guys, ive been looking around on the site and ive got some great info on different scopes out there, and i just wanted to throw my choices out there and my situation and see what you guys thought.

The gun is a .308 Tikka T3 lite. Kicks like a mule. Im gonna be hunting primarily deer in nothern Va, and i dont expect low light to be TOO much of a problem.

Im looking at

Leupold VX-3
Sightron Big Sky sii
Zeiss Conquest
Buschnell elite 4200

i know these are the usual competitiors and this has been discussed a few times i just wanted to get a few questions answered.

1) If i were unconcerned with price completely, could someone order them in overall quality for me?

2) Can someone show me where i can get a new pair of good scope rings for my Tikka?

3) Lastly the sun rising is often brutal where ive been hunting, and im going to want a sunshade on the scope, so i need to pick one that either comes with the shade, or where a shade can be bought for it.

thanks in advance

I have the same rifle in .308 and love it.  I bought the zeiss conquest.  I reluctantly mounted it in the stock rings and it performs perfectly.  Best scope I have ever had.  Adjustments are perfect, glass is amazing.  Reticle and view in low light for hunting are amazing.  Couldn't be more impressed.  I bought mine secondhand and it had a limbsaver already installed.  Recoil is mild with the limbsaver.  I'd put one on there if I were you if the recoil is bothering you.

All the scopes you listed are great buys. While we all have out favorites, I don't believe there is a loser in the bunch. It boils down to personal preferance and price IMO.

I bought a 3-9x40 4200 for my son who has a Tikka T3 lite in 300 WSM and he loves this scope. If you think the 308 win kicks, they make that rifle in .338 WM. Install a Kick-eez pad.

Quality is usually excellent with all those scopes.  The question is what attributes do you find most important.  Glass/coatings, length/weight of scope, price, looks, etc.

I have a Tikka T3 300wsm with a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-10x44, stock scope rings. It has been an outstanding combination. This rifle has been through "A LOT" and always shoots true. They are light rifles so recoil is a factor.  I put a limbsaver recoil pad that helped considerably.

No $$ limit, Zeiss is hands-down winner of those listed.

I bought my son that same rifle (wooden stock) for Christmas last year, the Limb Saver helps allot with recoil.  Allot!

I have owned several Tikkas, each has had the stock rings.  After destroying the first set (and yes, I know how to properly mount a scope), I dumped them and started getting Talley and Warne, Talleys only now.  I liked my Tikka so much a friend got one too, I told him not to mount his stock rings, he didn't listen, his rings died (300WM), his now wears Tikka rings.

I've heard many say the rings are crap and a few say they are fine.  I'd put your odds at about 50/50 that your rings will fail - and for that, I'd buy better rings.

I like the Talley rings, very secure, mount to the receiver not the rail, very well made.

If the sky is the limit on the optics, Zeiss is the best of your list.  If you are going to look at Zeiss, also look at Swaro Z6, both are great.

Also, your rifle is a long action (all T3s, whether short-action or long-action are built on the same receiver, the long action) so you do not need an especially short scope.

have a couple of conquests, and a couple of vx- would take the vx's ,personally feel they are built better.

on your early morning sunlight problem, try using a vx with alumina filters for to pull out the colors better-- they work great.
