I'm considering the #4 reticle in the Zeiss Conquest.  I'm looking at either a 3-9x40 or most likely the 3.5-10x44 to replace the scope that used to sit on my Savage 10ML-II muzzleloader.  I have not been able to find anyone that carries a Conquest with a #4 so I have not been able to look at one.  Does anyone know if the spacing between the heavy lines of the #4 reticle is similar to the 3-9x40 Z-plex, (heavy lines extend closer to the center of the lens), or similar to the 3.5-10x44 and other Conquests, (heavy lines not as close together, which I prefer)?

Thanks

This is what I found on Zeiss's webpage...... I'm not sure but I think the #8 is the Z-Plex.

Actually, I don't think the #8 is the Z-plex!

The Z-plex is listed as the #20, however they are different.  The thin lines of the 3x9x40 are shorter and resemble the #20 shown above.  The Z-plex on the 3-9x50, 3.5-10x44, and 4.5-14x44 look more like the #8 shown above in regards to line spacing.  In the above picture the line spacing of #4 looks similar to #20.  But since the #20 Z-plex looks different depending on which scope you have I'm wondering what the #4 REALLY looks like and if its also different based on what configuration of scope you have...

Speaking of Zeiss reticles...does anyone know where to get the various zeiss recticle dimensions, subtensions, thickness, etc.  I can't find it in their website, which is really frustrating.  Its hard to compare recticles without peering thru the scope itself.  I have found the pictures of the reticles are rarely to scale so comparing one to the other is useless.

Exactly, I wish more companies would post this info on their websites.  I guess I'll just call their customer service center on Monday and see if I can get some info.  If I do I'll post what I find out.

Well, I called Zeiss customer service this morning and here is the info I got regarding the subtensions on the #20 and #4 reticles.  First off this info is what they have listed for the 3-9x40 as the lady I spoke with said the numbers she has are the same for the 3.5-10x44, which is definately not the case at least for the #20/Z-plex.  I explained this to her and all she could say was that this was the information that she has available, which is fully understandable in her case.  Anyway here is the info for the #20 and #4

3-9x40 #20 (Z-Plex):
Width of Heavy Line @ 100 yds:  3x = 4", 9x =  1.3"
Width of Thin Line @ 100 yds:  3x = .666", 9x = .222"
Space between Heavy Lines @ 100yds:  3x = 24", 9x = 8"

3-9x40 #4:
Width of Heavy Line @ 100 yds:  3x = 10.8"  9x = 3.6"
Width of Thin Line @ 100 yds:  3x = 1.1, 9x = .5"
Space between Heavy Lines @ 100yds:  3x = 50.4", 9x = 17"

Based on this info it would appear that the spacing between the heavy lines on the #4 is similar to the wider #20 Z-plex in the 3.5-10x44.

I think I'm MORE confused........ why are they using a 100 yd point of view?

Everyone that I've seen published references subtensions this way.  For example the #4 heavy line will cover 10.8" of your target at 100 yds when your scope is set at 3x.
