Just as the title says, I am trying to decide between angled and straight eyepiece for a new spotting scope.  It will split time between the field and range, but probably more range than field, as I have good binos.  What are the advantages/disadvantages of each?  Is one better optically than the other?  Which is more comfortable to look through for extended periods of time?  As always I appreciate the help.

I prefer the angled for range work and a straight for field. when in position at the range it is much to keep position and look thru an angled spotter. When in the field, it is easier to find what you have spotted with your eye, if you can aim the spotting scope in line with where you are looking.

To me that largely depends on how big the spotter is.

On smaller ones I prefer a straight eyepiece.

Well I am kind of torn on what to get, as I want big to be able to see .224 holes at over 400 yards, but also want something that is actually usable in the field.  The big 80mm+ scopes are just cumbersome in the field to me.  Any high magnification 60mm to 65mm objectives out there that would work for what I want?

If seeing .223 holes at 400 yards is your goal, you will probably be unhappy with any on the market. Less expensive way would be to get a remote video camera setup.

I agree with much of this.  However when hunting (I have a 60 mm straight Minox), it is very tiring looking up the mountain for any length of time.
