I have been searching rifle scopes for something that will give me the 'better' all-round scope for a number of situations.. 1) Target shooting bench rest 100-1000, 2) hunting long range up to 8-900, 3) tactical /bench hybrid gun, benchrest barrel/action, with a tactical/hunting stock, in around the 10 lbs range.
When I look at scopes, the first thing I think about is the reticle and how 'thin' the cross-hairs I totally anal?,  I can't find anything other then a Nightforce reticle that (or maybe a Leupold TMR, or possibly Falcon) that maybe would suite my needs.. All the mil-dots and bdc type cross-hairs such as those on Burris tactical or Bushnell elites are large enough to cover a target at 6 or 800 yards, that would drive me crazy..

I have a fine plex on a 3-9xFullfield II that I shoot at 300 yards and its not bad but I can definitely not make it out to 600 yards with any type of group shooting...
What are your guys experience shooting a bdc or mildot type reticles at long ranges , are you shooting for groups with those or just hitting a 2x4' target?
Before I go drop 1500 on a nightforce when I may get by with something else..
thanks for any input..

Is a vortex Razor thin enough .05 mil or covers 1.44 inches at 800 yards expensive though
Vortex Viper PST .04 mil or covers about   1.15 inches at 800 yards below the cost might work well.

As you mention a price under $1500,I would recommend the Minox Z5 6-20x50 I really like mine as the glass is fantastic for it's price[$729.95 @ SWFA],it has MD ret.& the company has greatCS.Also you can reach out to 1K with a SWFA SS 10XHD another great scope.I think the Minox edges it out on the glass but that's it.The SS is built like a battle wagon, turrets are as good as anything out there up to NF & the mil dots are the right size. The glass is also very good ,all this in a $800 package!
