I don't know if this is old news but Alliant Techsystems (ATK) which was a spin off from Honeywell and  owns Federal Cartridge and Gunslick plus the space and big bad boy stuff like torpedos, bought the Weaver brand from Meade.  I think they are marketing a Nitrex brand of scope now.

Alliant is a quality big time company---They will do what it takes to bring Weaver to the front of the line in consumer optics.

It came up here a short while back http://opticstalk.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=11600&KW=weaver&PID=107743#107743
I believe you are right in your assessment of good things to come, too.

+2 on that! I've got two pre meade(they don't deserve a capital M)Grand Slam scopes,a 4.75x40,and a 3-10x40,that I would rate in the top of their price range as far as high quality scopes go.

Weaver used to make a darn good scope ... I don't know about the current lines ... especially since they've been bought and sold so many times . Hope someone buys and keeps it ... hate to see such an old american icon company go down the tubes . My first scope was a weaver .

I agree, I hope they make it. My first scope which I still have was a  Weaver fixed power 4x for my old Remington 22 that I bought when I was fourteen years old. I cut many lawns to get the money to buy that baby and a lot of woodchucks went to the clover field in the sky because of itBig%20Smile

Just finished a quick read about ATK and their Nitrex scopes in an article by Wayne VanZwoll in G+A.  The company definitely seems shooting/outdoor sports oriented. Maybe there's hope.

I believe that ATK is/was the Blount group that bought Weaver in the 80's from Olin. Blount owed/owns Speer, RCBC, CCI, and a few others.
I hope they bring Weaver to the frontline again. While I haven't owned a meade Weaver, the El Paso's, Olin's, and Blount's have served me well on a workin' man's salary.

I'm really hoping that this works out well. I'm a big fan of Weaver scopes. I've already own a T24, a V24, a RV9, and a couple of their Classic shotgun scopes and will add more in the future.
