ZP, I think L&C only had one Girandoni, which was used to hunt deer.  In the 1600's, Europeans used air guns for deer, boar and warfare...

true, i use term "airguns" when speaking of them...there are pics online of what some think (want/hope) is the actual rifle but good luck authenticating that one...still, i'll bet it would bring a tidy sum on "antiques roadshow"...zp...

I saw it on an episode of American Rifleman two years ago, I think.  The guy who had it was trying to replicate it, but only having meager success.  Could not get the ballistics...
