I mounted my ML3 on my shotgun(SBE2) with a medium height ring but dont have enough adjustment on the aimpoint and the dot is about 8 inches higher than poi at 45 yards.  Would going to a low ring help?  any other suggesstions would be greatly apprerciated.

No what you need to do is shim the back of the scope base. Take a pop can and cut a small piece of aluminum and put it under the back of the base to tilt the base forward.
