Hello, I was hoping to get some advice/ opinions on scopes.
I have a ruger precision. Rimfire rifle .22lr and until recently had a UTG 6-24x50mm. For my birthday I upgraded to a vortex venom 5-25x56. I have a hard time seeing .22 holes at 100 meters on paper targets. Is that normal? Is something wrong with the scope? I had one of the RSO working look through it to see if it was just me but he had a hard time seeing the shots also. The range I go to is an indoor free range that goes out to 100 meters, but I would eventually like to go to a range that is farther. Do i need to make the switch to glo targets? Should i send the scope back while I am still able (bought from Amazon)? I paid about 500$ for it, is there other scopes I should look at in the same price range? Do i need to increase my price range? Thanks for reading/ any feedback

.22 size holes can be tough to resolve, even with a high quality optic. I don't think it's likely that the scope is defective. A shoot-n-c type target could help, but still may not provide the feedback you want if you're shooting small groups. A dedicated spotting scope and/or a higher mag optic might be your best option. Does your range have any spotting scopes available that you could test?

It's not always possible to see holes that small at that range even with a decent riflescope. Try to aiming a bright light at the target from close range if allowed. Otherwise, look into target cameras or spotting scopes.

We all have trouble seeing 22 holes. I was at 100 yds today and had no problem seeing .44 mag holes at 14x & 16x.
There is glass that can get to where you want to be but good spotting scopes are expensive. Vortex seems to make some good scopes and their warranty is the best. I know not everyone wants to use a larger bullet but boy does it help seeing the hole.

I have a cheap spotting scope.
(Emarth 20-60-60? I think) Upgraded the rifle scope first and plan to upgrade the spotting scope for black friday. Guess I should of swapped the order of what I upgraded. The one glo target I had worked pretty well so will have to just switch to those instead for now
