I have been searching around for a scope. I have an ar-15 and a ruger 10/22.
I am looking for something in the 200-300 or so range as just for targets at the range no competition and all that. Originally I was going with the Bushnell Elite 3200 10X fixed, As cheap and good reviews but am not sure if I should go with a fixed scope. Then I thought I found what I wanted, the Mueller Tactical 2 3-9X Variable but of course its discontinued. Is there anything out there thats comparable with the Tac 2 in that price range? Or point me in a direction as I just feel lost again. Also Do you guys like fixed or variable scopes. Not sure whats better as these are my first rifles and never had a scope on them. I would just go with the bushnell but am not sure if I would kick myself afterwards. I mean im getting it to try hitting distant targets. Plan on using Quick-Disconnect mounts as I like using the Iron sights and plan on getting a Red Dot so not like I need the scope to be versatile in its range capability as I can easily remove it.

If it is going on a rimfire, you should be looking at a scope where the parallax can be adjusted for close in targets or is preset that way so the fixed power Bushnell will not be a very good option for you.
I would suggest you give up on the reddot and get a decent variable scope. Something like this maybe: ILya

For the AR-15, you have more options since there is a number of decent 4=9x40 or similar scopes out there.

Looking at Mueller scopes, they seem to have good reviews but not sure if they are something worth looking at or not. |

The Mueller APV 4-14x40 is excellent for the price and would work on the AR or 10/22, super clear
edge to edge, has a 4plex reticle. If you do go with Mueller buy from an authorized dealer due to warranty.

You may or may not be interested in a higher power scope, but I just got one of the simmons white tail classics (6.5-20x50 AO) that are on sale for $109.99 . I am amazed at the clarity, sharpness, light , and eye relief. In fact, I also just bought a leupy vx3 3-9x40 with the $80 rebate. I had both rifles on the range yesterday afternoon LATE. With both scopes on 9x I could actually see the bullet holes in the targets(targetz online) BETTER with the simmons than the leupy. I could not believe it. It seemed to be just as bright as well. It was about 8:30 in the evening ! I may not have the eyepiece focused just right on the leupy, cause my eyes were getting tired from zeroing the two rifles. I'm hoping/EXPECTING the leupy to do MUCH better.

For just a hair over $300 (plus rings & mounts) you could give each rifle its own dedicated scope. For the AR15 I like these three. It's hard to beat the optical quality for the buck:
For casual target shooting and rabbit hunting this is a great choice for the 10/22:
