i have been looking for 2 months for a scope, this has been more difficult than buying my rifle, i have a pof-usa ar 15, 16 inch barrel, i am down to eotech and ior 4x26 fixed, went to gun show this week hoping to get to look through them, but all they were selling were chinese leapers and nc stars.  so i hope someone here can help.  ior has a cqb sight, will i really be able to take closer shots with 4x, i am a novice with scopes so i am looking for a solid idiot proof scope.  less clicks the better for now.  i have been in military, dept of corrections and a police officer but amazingly have never had a scope on any weapon so now i am lost.  i am not a hunter, this would be set up as a close to mid range battle rifle. i won't be able to look through an ior unless i buy one, so if anyone can help me with the quality of reticle and illumination i would greatly appreciate it.

I've never owned an IOR but 4x ain't great for CQB wep.

I have a flat-top AR and I put an EOTech on it.  Due to the reticle, it's faster on target and the center 1-MAO dot can be used for longer ranges.

If you want this for close,r ange, avoid anything with magnification and go with something that is forward mounted.  Aimpoint isn't a bad choice either, but the battereis aren't as standard (though you change them less frequently) and the reticle isn't as quick - but it is better defined.

I'd buy the EOTech.  (Actually, I did buy the EOTech.)

You might want to look at Burris scopes on the SWFA website they have some CQB optics , the Eotech is popular on this site and you may want to look at Aimpoint sights as they have the ability to add on magnification for hunting.

Link to the 3X aimpoint http://www.swfa.com/c-848-aimpoint-3xmag.aspx

That can be used with their red dot sights adds a little more flexiability. I would call Chris at SWFA for his advice on combining the two.
