I'm thinking my post belongs here rather than "riflescopes" forum:

I have a Marlin Camp 45 which I think I'd like to put some type of red dot on.  Don't wanna spend too much (<$200).  Something like the Viper Strikefire looks appealing.  The ACOG lok is cool and somewhat fits the profile.  Any similar ones y'all might suggest?  I don't  expect to shooting anything more dangerous than tin cans and pine cones (but ya never know).  Small or adjustable dot/reticle size would be preferred.  Quick aquisition with accuracy on smallish targets would be the goal.

I've never had a red dot before, but I can't see open sights very well anymore.

I'm not big on requiring "weird" batteries unless their lifetime is fantastic.

Doesn't have to be adjustable.  I just don't forsee the use of 5 an 10 MOA dots.  I'm not looking for CQB on mansized targets.

I see Bushnell has a very similar ACOG looking site.  The Trophy 1x32 MP.  I think slight magnifcation might be preferred, but perhaps not a viable option in this site type/price.  the Vortex does come witha doubler.  The co-witness sghts on the Bushnell might be good...or gimmick.

Anyone have a comparison between the Bushnell, Vortex and Barfska?

Many good reviews and post have been made regarding the strikefire.

$129.95
Add Bushnell 1-4x24 Trophy 30mm Rifle Scope to Cart
This is twenty bucks lower than it usuall is and its a sturdy scope.  I recomend this rather than a cheap red dot  and if you read the info on Aimpoint:    Aimpoint's electronic reflex sights are manufactured using a unique patented double front lens which eliminates the parallax error inherent in other red dot sights. This feature allows the shooter to get on target more quickly and shoot more accurately, because the dot does not need to be centered inside the sight; if the dot is on it, then you will hit it.   What you get with cheap red dots is they dont work the same if your cheekweld is off and the dot is not centered it wont be accurate.

I saw that scope while doing a forum search.  You've recommended it to several folks in the budget red dot quest.   The lit reticle could certainly function similar to the dot.  Might be an even better fit on my Russian SKS.  That's another one I want to put some optics on (cuz'n I can't see the rear blades with clarity anymore).   It's much more likely to see somewhat distant shots vs. the 45 ACP in the Camp 45.

I see a lot of the red dots advertise no parallax or parallax free after X yardage.  How much parallax is there?  Will it keep you from hitting a beer can at 25-50 yards?

Of the red dot sights you listed, Vortex Strikefire is probably the best one.

Take a cheap red dot set it on a solid object move around behind it and note if the dot stays on the target or moves off the target.   With Aimpoint  the dot does not have to be centered if the dot is on something what it is on is what you are going to hit there is no required cheekweld issue to add a problem.   Dont know if this makes sense to you but I've seen aimpoints work on rifles like an M1a where  cheekweld causes significant accuracy problems.  I just refuse to go with the cheap red dots better a used aimpoint off samplelist.
