I was prett much decided on the 10x Super Sniper which I planed on ording tomorrow but just I took a look at the nikon monarch's because of the clearance sale and see the 3.3-10x44 is basically the same price as the SS.

I don't care for the variable power and would most likely leave it a 10x.

I'm looking for durability and good quality glass. Is the SS10x42 better for this or is the nikon a clearly a better scope for the same price.  Also, the SS needs 30mm rings which would add about $65 to the cost.  I already have 1" rings.

Your advice is appreciated,

Smitty

The Monarch is certainly more flexible. Unless you just plan to
punch paper off a bench the 3-10 would be a more useful choice.
10X is a lot of Xs if the bad guy is running across your field at 50 yards at twilight.

+ 1 on what root says.

if you are gonna punch paper w/ it only, get the SS.

if you are gonna hunt at all w/ it, OR paperpunch in the lowlight, get a variable.

both are great scopes, though.

For better or worse, I ordered the SS10x.  There are so many cool toys that in the end, I'm just going to have to get all of them.

So, whats a cheap rifle that would be fun to have the SS on?

Savage Bolt action. Cheap, accurate and accu-trigger is fantastic.

+1 on the savage - great setup for not a lot of money - and the accutrigger is great.

I to am stuck with this decision, I have a RRA that needs some glass adn I was going to go with the SS 10X but I take the gun out P-doggin sometimes, so I may just have to go with the Nikon.  The Savages are sweet a friend of mine has one in 243.  I want to add one in 308 to my safe one day.

Thanks

Good post, D.

Mike Millers review of the SS is a little dated.

They have upgraded the SS since Mike wrote that review, if it was written in 2003.

So their even better now...
