I'm assuming you'd have to lap cheap rings and expensive ones are probably good to go.

If that were the case and you already had the lapping equipment, couldn't you just save a few bucks and get cheap rings? Forgive my ignorance.

Its not really about lapping. Quality of materials, design, strength, tollerances. The way the attach to the gun.
Lifetime warranty and excellent customer service don't mean a thing when your gun fails during a zombie attack.

This.

These days, the much mentioned Talley Light Weights have bridged the gap between "inexpensive" and "quality". In addition to being super reasonably priced, ($40), they are STRONG as all get out and are nice to look at too. Millet price, with Badger like strength, and Conetrol like good looks. (Well almost.) Wink

Lapping a turd is just gonna give you a shiny POS.

Spend the money on a "quality" set of rings and rest easy. Rings with scope's slipping around and stripped out "hex head" cap screws instead is silly.
If at first you don't secede...try..try again.
