Greets folks!

I have a Savage 10FP (.308) with a SS10X42M on Ken Farrell 20MOA Base and rings.  I've only had the rifle out to the range once so far, but I'm loving it!

My question is what's the best procedure to get the scope adjusted properly, especially in terms of what does what.

As I understand it, the left side turret on the M is parallax adjustment; it should be set to the range being shot and left.  Is that correct? Setting the scope to 100 at 100 yards (scope is calibrated in meters I believe but should be close) it seems a bit off (moving head from side to side moves reticle).  I have to move it further along the scale to stop reticle movement.

Next, the rear focus adjustment.  Am I correct is believing that this adjusts the focus of the reticle?  The reticle seems very clear, but there doesn't seem to be any change when I turn the adjustment.  Is it range related?

I'm new to rifle optics, so any help would be most appreciated.

SCOPE ADJUSTMENT

SCOPES WITH PARALLAX

After mounting scope properly, the following adjustments should be made prior to

Actual zero of the scope/rifle combination.

Reticle focus;

Point the UNLOADED rifle at a featureless background such as the sky or a white wall.

While viewing the reticle, turn the fast focus ocular adjustment until the reticle definition becomes very sharp.  Check the center of the reticle at the junction of the vertical and horizontal crosshair, then again at the junction of the thin and medium sections of the crosshair.  Use these points to define the best reticle clarity as you adjust the fast focus ocular.

Parallax Adjustment

DO NOT perform this adjustment until you have completed the reticle focus procedure above.

Disregard the yardage marks on the parallax adjustment.  Your eyes are different from mine.

View your target from a steady position, turning the parallax adjustment until the target becomes clearly defined, just as you did in the reticle adjustment procedure.

Now, SLIGHTLY move your head up/down-side/side.  The target should not appear to move under the reticle.  If it does, make  a minor adjustment to the parallax, and repeat the head movement portion of this step.  When the reticle and target no longer move in relation to each other the scope has all possible parallax error removed.

IT IS NOT UNCOMMON to find that at the zero parallax setting the image is slightly less defined than is possible when just using target definition as the primary guide for parallax adjustment.  Failure to understand this results in sighting errors at longer distances
