Hey y'all, i've got a question i've been trying to figure out for a while and cant find an answer to.  I already have two Remington 700's for hunting, i'm in the process of buying another one for target and hunting (rem 700p ltr .308) i cant decide on a scope to top it off with.

The ?:    What is the major difference between a constant power scope and a variable other than of course the fact that you can adjust one from lower to higher, why would you pick a constant 16x rather than a 5x-20x?

Fixed power scopes have less parts to and less to go wrong and are ususally tougher. If you have a specific application like you always shoot daylight steel plates at 600 yds a fixed 16 or 20 might be just the thing for you. Where a variable becomes useful is that as it gets dark you dial down the power and that increases the exit eye pupil size allowing a brighter more useable image. Variable also is beneficial in that as the power is reduced the field of view bacomes wider and more useful at closer distances. Still you simply can not buy something with tactical dials like the 10x Super Sniper in a variable for the $299 price that will work as reliably and be as tough.

Your indended use might help make a suggestion possible.
