Almost every web site that sells the Zeiss Conquest 3-9X40 scope lists its weight at 15oz or so but when I checked the Zeiss website it is listed as weighing only 13.75oz. I have always thought that the Conquest was a good value but at 15oz was a bit heavy for my lightweight Montana. Does anyone know what the real weight is? I assume the official website has the right number but wonder where everyone else got his or her number.

no i looked and it shows 15oz as does swfa's site  there is a chart at the bottom of the page where it shows 13.75oz as the weight, but i would guess its a type o or maybe thats the weight without the lens covers and turret caps. does 1.25oz really matter though, your not going to notice that little bit of difference

yeah i saw that and like i said its either a type o or they are two different measurements, call them if 1.25oz makes that much difference to you

im guessing that  they had to weigh it twice under two different circumstances, had to be without the scope covers and turret caps or something.

I weighed em' once, the 3x9 was 15.1oz and the 3.5x10 was 15.8oz. The 3.5x10 has a lot bigger objective (44) but is a fair amount shorter. Just my 2oz....I mean cents :>)

I've got a 3-9x40 Conquest mounted on an 8400 Montana in 30-06 using Talley Lightweights. It balances very well on the long action and can be easily adjusted to provide a comfortable position for eye relief. I also struggled with the weight issue and ultimately decided the 1.5 ounce discrepancy was not worth worrying about.

SamC, so far the Talley's are holding up just fine. However, you should temper this endorsement with the fact that I've only put 150 rounds through the rifle.

On a side note, I love the 4A reticle on my Conquest. First time I've used it in a real hunting situation and was dully impressed with how quickly I was able to get on target for both initial and follow-on shots. I strongly encourage others to consider it for a hunting gun.

Thanks for feedback on the Talley LW's, pell1203.

I've used Talleys, (excellent product line) but never the LW's. Looks like a great mount for light weight rifle set ups!!

I'm looking real hard at the talleys for my light carry rifle build. Not trying to hi jack the thread....but the weight question appears to be answered. Anybody know how heavy the talley lightweights are?

Focus,

I just weighed a set of reversible front steel Talley bases, along with a set of low steel screwlock rings.  They weighed 6 ozs., including all of the mounting screws.

A set of lightweight Talley low rings/bases, again with the extended front ring, including all mounting screws weighed 3 ozs.  Also, I mounted  both sets on the rifle, and measured the height.  IIRC, the lightweights are VERY slightly lower......something like .020".  But, that could vary on different rifles.

I've put some lightweight Talleys through the wringer on a couple of hunting rifles, and didn't have any problems on hunting size scopes.  Their clamping power amazed me.

I also happened to have an unmounted 3-9x40 Conquest.  It weighs 15 oz. without the lens covers, 1 lb with the lens covers.

Hope this helps,

Steve

Thanks Wally the weight for the talleys is very interesting. Sounds like they are worth the switch for me over steel warne maxima bases and steel burris signiture zee rings for sure.

Focus:

Chris Farris has used the Talley LW's and liked them. Good enough of a testimonial for me right there...Price is good to go too.

Well CT, its all about an oz here and 2 oz's there as far as getting the weight down on my new rifle. Just talked the stock builder into skeletonizing the aluminum bedding block in the new stock for 2 oz's less while a lighter scope and mounts could save me another 1/4lb. I want the gun to weigh in at 7lb's or less with scope and mounts ,ready to shoot. Looks like talleys it is my friend.....

I'm glad I could help out for a change.  Often it is better for me to keep my mouth shut!  Wink

Short of the super heavy duty tactical rings and bases, I sincerely believe the Talley Lightweights are as tough as anything.  If you tear up a set of Talley Lightweights, you're probably going to have other issues as well..........like maybe broken bones and busted glass!

I'm sure they will work just skippy for me, just a little ol 260 pop-gun that will be quite gentle on the shoulder. Thanks again guys....

Thanks Wally,
Do you know if you can lap aluminum rings like Talley LW's?
