Im seriously considering putting an ACOG TA11E on my M1A. Due to right eye trauma from a car accident i see double scope crosshairs with my left eye shut and require a scope that allows me to use both eyes. Unfortunately they are calibrated for a heavier bullet as well as different barrel length. I was wondering if the ACOG like most other scopes have workable elevation knobs?

Thanks

Jason

I would suggest that you go to a gunshow and see if you can find an ACOG to look through to see - first if you have dificulty with your  vision with that scope. I say gunshow because most stores are not likely to carry that scope and you can often find one at a large gunshow.  The other option is to order one and look through it to determine if it will work with your vision problem. You might call SWFA and talk to Chris and see if you could - conditionally buy one - look through it without mounting it and determine if it will work with your vision problem with the understanding in advance that he will allow you to return it if it will not work for your vision problem.  As for the scope being set up for one bullet weight or barrel length I would not worry about that so long as it is set up for the correct caliber. You may find that due to bullet weight or barrel length you are high or low 2 to 3 inches at 300 yds but windage wont be affected and as long as results are consistent say always 2 in low at 300 you can still work with the scope. Without an electronic rangefinder most guys cant tell 275 yds from 325 yds so the couple of inches off is a moot point most of the time at medium distances. At true long range (over 600 yds ) you're screwed but you probably already knew that because the farther out you go the more precise you must be.

The ARMS base is lower profile than the M-21 type.  An  EOTech is also an option which should work for you but as a 1x it is designed for close range say under 200 yds (primarily).

The Acog does not have knobs. The dials are adjustable with a cartridge case / coin and are under water proof caps. The ARMS or Springfield base will NOT work with an ACOG (you'd need to saw the last 4 -5" off the rifle stock to get the eye relief right). I've seen talk (on m14.com) of a company called Smith that makes a mount specifically designed for the ACOG but I've never been able to find one. Let me know if you find anything that works. I think that the M1A and an Acog would be a great combo.

There is also the LaRue Tactical ACOG Mount QD (LT100) which mounts on top of an ARMS,
Sadlak etc.

I am interested in this topic too since I also have banged up eyes and need a 2-eyes-open sight.

I think that the ACOG has too little eye relief (2.4 in) for a rifle with a strong recoil. These are
just my thoughts - I haven't been able to try the ACOG.

I wonder if something with infinite eye relief like an Aimpoint or Eotech would be better?

Does anyone on this board have one of these mounted on a 22" barrel M1A?

Does this help you 4thSeal?

John.

Recoil on my 22" M1A is mild. I'd bet 2.4" is enough. Thanks for the link Koshkin.
