What is the lowest possible mounting height for an ACOG?

I see that for compact ACOGs there are a couple of different mount versions: carry handle mount and some sort of a "special ring adaptor"
http://www.swfa.com/pc-4371-226-trijicon-2x20-acog-compact-rifle-scope.aspx that requires buying this ring: http://www.swfa.com/pc-3844-398-trijicon-compact-acog-mount.aspx

Is this special ring adaptor the lowest possible ACOG mounting method? How high would the scope centerline be over the Picatinny base then?

This for a non-AR rifle with a Picatinny base, but with some drop in the stock, so I want to be able to mount the scope as low as possible.

Thanks.

That is for a "carry handle"ACOG.  There is a version of the compact ACOG with a different mounting system that looks to be lower (see the links in my original post).

Picatinny but no specs with it.   If I had to guess Id say it looks like the equal of high rings

Thanks.  I found that, but since I do not have the ACOG, I am not sure how far above the ring is the scope centerline.

The lowest mount I have seen is the JP which puts the CL of the ACOG about 1.43" above the top of the rail.  The Larue LT100 is about 1/10" higher, putting it 1.53".  Those are just eyeballed measurements but should give you an idea.

Oops, I didn't catch that you were asking specifically about compact ACOGs.  Nevermind.

I just ordered the Compact ACOG from the sample list with a Trijicon weaver mount.  I'll measure its height when it gets here Big%20Smile.

For some reason Compact ACOGs have been the latest target of my OCD; what one did you order?

Outstanding.  Please keep us posted regarding your use and opinion of this optic.  The compacts--IMO--are too often overlooked as a way of providing magnification to a "tactical" weapon.

Also, the 3x24 ACOGs ER is claimed to be rather low with a small "sweet spot" for proper viewing.  What is your observation on this?

Thank you for your time and consideration, sir.  I enjoy reading your posts and I find them very informative and usefull in helping me come to a better understanding of rifle based optics.

The scope should be here on Friday.  I expect to go to the range on Saturday, so I will play with it and see how it goes.

Eye relief is pretty low on all ACOGs, since this is going onto a 223, that should not be a problem.  As for the sweetspot, we'll see how it goes.  If I do not like, I will try the 2x20 model next.

Right now the TA47-2 (2X20) is at the top of my list as far as ACOGs go.  I was and still am a fan of the TA33 (3X30) but the more time I spent with the 47 the more I thought that it was a better optic FOR ME.  Good luck with your project and I would be interested in reading more about same.    Yak

I think you will like it if the eye relief doesnt create a problem for you.

Eye relief is fine.  I went out and shot with it (but very briefly since I had to cut the day at the range short).  It s a very nice little scope.  Eye position is pretty flexible and I can comfortably use it with both eyes open if need be.

Outstanding, Koshkin.  I'd love to read more about your "adventures" with the compact ACOG.  BTW--Urimaginaryfrnd got me into a little trouble with the wife unit here at home with his stong support of the compact ACOG line...I bought a TA47-2!  Big Smile
