So I just took receipt of a new SS 10x classic with Mil-Quad reticle.  After adjusting the diopter to focus the reticle I noticed that, to my eyes, the long verticle and horizontal lines of the reticle look different than I expected.

To me, if I'm looking very close, they look like they are each composed of two sets of thin parallel lines with an almost imperceptible gap in between, instead of one solid line.

Something like this (without the segmenting)

==+====+=====+=====+=====+====+====+====  (using + to simulate diamonds)

VS. this
----+-------+---------+---------+---------+--------+-------+-------

I hope that makes some sense.  It's the best way I can think of to simulate what I'm talking about with a keyboard.  It's not EXTREMELY pronounced, but it's definitely there if I focus hard.

Is this what other people are seeing in the Mil-Quad, or are my eyes just not playing nice with the thin reticle?  I know I have an astigmatism and it plays hell with red dots, but I've never had this effect with a scope reticle before.

Thanks for reading.

Look at the
Page 2 & 3 for Dioptric adjustment. This manual is not specificly for this scope but most of it will be relevant.

That's what I'd been trying to do with no joy.

Then it occurred to me that I should go find my old glasses that I never wear.  Bingo.  It's my eye that isn't playing nice with the reticle.  Thicker reticles don't seem to give me so much of a problem.  It's probably still happening, but just harder to notice.

I guess I may have to wear my prescription glasses in order to use this scope.  Bummer.

I guess this means I have officially become old now.  Damn.
