  WELCOME to OT,derek.

There's not much available in the way of mounts for Mosin-Nagant M44's.  But Weaver makes a good product so I'd think about staying with it.
As far as a new scope goes, what type of hunting/shooting are you into and what's your budget?

What I would do is leave that rifle with just open sights or keep the scope set up you have on it and not invest more money in it.  There are so many other rifles out there that would be a far better choice to put a good scope onto. For about $257 you could pick up a mossberg .270 or 30-06 at Walmart and have a better mounting platform and more capable cartridge.  An NCSTAR is not much of a scope so if you decide to go to a better scope I would have a hard time suggesting you spend more than these considering the rifle and that is if the mount is adequate.
