I spent a few weeks finding the perfect scope to fit my needs, but when it finally arrived at my door, I discovered a problem that never occurred to me. The tube on the scope is too short for the rail on my rifle. The rail itself is long enough, but the notches for the bolt on the rings to pass through are too far apart. What are my best options in this situation? I don't want to grind new notches in the rail- that would mean grinding the head off one of the bolts that secures the rail to the rifle.
That rifle is a Savage 110 7mm mag and the scope is a Simmons Aetec 2.8-10x44. The rail is two-piece. Merry Christmas everyone! |

or you could buy a one piece picatinny type mount. It has a rail all across the top so you can mount your scope anywhere you need.

I think that the base suggestion would be the best. If you need to go cheap and ugly, Weaver extension rings will work. I had them on a .375 H&H years ago and they held up fine.

Thanks for the replies! If my wallet permits me, i'll go with the tactical rail... but the ease of the extended rings is pretty darn tempting too.
And thanks for the welcome. I think that O.T. is soon going to be encroaching on my archerytalk.com time. Oh well, looks like i'm going to have to bump back my bedtime!
