I have been reading the posts here and have become more confused.  I am looking for a good scope for deer hunting.  I have previously been using Leupold VX3.  Got a new gun and need a new scope.  I have been looking at at Leupold VX-3L 3.5x10x56.  I see some posts about Leupolds but most about Zeiss, Swaro, etc.  My budget is about $1000.00 and I am really interested in the 56 mm for low light hunting (I do not see very well in low light).  Is the Zeiss Conquest 50 mm comparable to the Leupold, or is there something else out there in my price range?  Or is the Leupold the way to go----I thought that was what I wanted till i read the posts here.  Help!

THE ZEISS CONQUEST IS MAYBE A TAD BETTER BUT DEFINITELY NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT LEUPOLD VX3 SOME COULD NOT TELL A DIFFERENCE I WOULD GET THE ONE YOU LIKE THE BEST,...........IMO  BUT THE 56MM I WOULD SHY AWAY FROM IT IS NOT NEEDED I WOULD GO 50MM TOPS.

Keep it simple and save some money - I would reccomend the Zeiss Conquest 50mm.

Thanks for the help.  Looked for a while longer and found a Zeiss 3x12x56.  It fit on my browning with normal rings, none of the taller mounts which I did not want.  Found it used for $649 at the same place I bought my rifle.

The new VX3 supposedly has optics comparable to the Zeiss Conquest so if you are happy with the performance of the Leupold, that's the way you should go.

I would prefer the Zeiss 3-12x56 over the VX3,another good scope is the Docter 3-12x56, nice optics made in Germany at the Zeiss factory.

As long as you are not shy of a 56mm I think you should look at these with the tritium and fiber optic illuminated reticle. Not having to turn it on to use it is a big plus.

look at all the scopes, take them outside, compare them, make sure you have them on a rifle like you are using and at low light, see which one is the most comfortable and then make your choice.

One thing that you may be missing because people often do is that if you turn the power ring down to a lower power the scope gets brighter in low light.  6x for a 42mm, 7x for a 50mm and 8x for a 56mm.  Personally I think a 56mm is a pain in the butt. I'd rather have a 42mm scope keep the medium rings and the better cheekweld. The 56mm seems top heavy also so Im not sure you will be happy with it.  Really want great glass in low light - Swarovski.
