I am on my way down a ridge to my tree stand when I look down and I am one step away form sticking my big foot in the middle of a coil up timber rattler. Eeveryone watch your step if you live in snake country. This sure makes the walk back out alot more interesting. I'm not to bad afraid of snakes but I still don't want to get to know this well.

EWWWW!!  I too live where they live, and you'd be amazed how long they stay out before going in for the winter.  I've had buddies see snakes with frost on the ground...cold snakes, but snakes none the less.  I'm Glad he didn't decide to see what you taste like!

Good advise, HH.

We have a few rattlers here in the Foothills of NC, but we seem to have a pretty healthy population of copperheads.  Snake

This kinda makes you wonder at how many we walk by in low light conditions. Who ever came up with the old saying a rattler will warn you never meet the rattlers that we have. I have never seen a rattler make a sound until he was good and mad.

I work with a guy that takes vacation and goes to Georgia to catch rattlers. Now I'm not the smartest person in the world but I think that I could find a better way to send a vacation. I think that I would soon stay home and watch the grass grow.

Them thar "crazy people" in GA are called native Texans. Wink
Rattle snake round ups were fairly common out there at one time.

Melrose bomb range, located outside of Cannon AFB, NM had a plexiglass case of rattle snakes the guys rounded up inside their operations building.
THATS a true story....Wink

They still are an annual event.  A rattlesnake roundup group has a booth full of rattlers at the Texas Trophy Hunter's Extravaganza show every year.

Here's a pic a friend of mine sent me, supposedly from a rattlesnake roundup near Sweetwater, TX...

Yeah, it's actually pretty good.  At the risk of sounding like a worn-out cliche...
... it tasted a little like fried chicken.

Favirite way is to put them on a stick over the grill. With some southern viniger BBQ sauce. Not the liquid smoke stuff they sell In OK. and TX. Side of slaw and baked beans. Good eating.GrillingOutSmiley.gif%20Emoticons--Grilling%20Out%20Smiley%20image%20by%20Anitacook_13

Well, EVERYTHING is better with hot sauce on it!!  I had rattlesnake one time back in the seventies.  Someone down in Surfside, Texas killed one outside of his beach house and then had a party that night.  Someone skun it and cooked it in a frying pan ( this 'weren't' Rachael Ray, fellers.....everyone wuz pretty drunked-up..)  It looked pretty disgusting curled up in that pan, but I had a piece and it was OK---tasted like Chicken!! Laugh  Anyway, it might have been better with some hot sauce, but I was just eating it and drinking liquor as I remember....

I've shot plenty of them but I never ate any more of them....they stink to much too handle.....Stare
