There's a huge price gap in the market between the SS 3-9 and other FFP mil/mil scopes that I recently considered. I just wasn't comfortable with IOR (which has some scopes in between price-wise). I think it says a lot about the SS 3-9 that you have to spend 3-4X as much to get a scope that surpasses it. And even then, there are some trade-offs, like doubling the weight.

The most expensive component was the powder (M6 cannon powder). Since he had a machine shop and made his own projectiles, the only real cost was the steel and brass stock. He had a military crimper that crimped everything from 20mm to 90mm, we called it the Lee loader for cannons. The main gun was a 37mm and it was a blast to shoot, although I don't think we would try skeet since we couldn't find any canister rounds.
