I'm looking at getting a new rifle for deer hunting and am having a hard time choosing. I will be hand loading and am looking at maybe a Cooper M54 Excalibur. I have a Kahles CL 3x10x50 Multizero scope to put on it.
Any feedback will be appreciated.

Both are great cartridges. You can't go wrong with either. Package sounds nice.

Unless you want ready made match or cheap 4 MOA plus blasting ammo, 7mm08 is the stuff. Well, except .260 is better

The 7mm08 is a good all around cartridge with reasonable recoil and the ability to take large game.   The 6.5 Creedmore is also an interesting choice with a flat shooting bullet.  The .308 used to have a lot going for it when reloading components were in easy supply Lapul brass Varget and 190SMk with Fed Premium primers (good luck finding all of those now). I have .308s but dont have a 7m08 or a 6.5.  I tend not to be sensitive to recoil and would consider 300 WSM my favorite, but I believe you would be well advised to go 7mm08.

7-08. It is the "best" "all around" round. Its nothing fancy but dose the job and dose it well. Its a fairly easy round to load for. The ones I have done have not been picky on the loads.

It still does. It's excellent fodder for running into a 7-08 sizing die and necking down to a superior cartridge.Cool

The 7-08 and 7mm Rem Mag are my two favorite cartridges.

The 308 is fine, but the 7-08 is ... well ... better.
