Ok Im looking atthe 6-24x50mm Vortex Viper Pst. Ive been searchin the old posts and havent really found anything recent about these scopes. Now before the scope Nazis get all over me I would love to have a NF but its not in the budget as of now so Im lookin at vortex. I posted earlier about a scope for my 338 LM. Got alot of good feed back and I thank you guys for that but Im still curious here.. Ive read a bunch about these scopes and I cant say Ive read much bad about them. So wondering how these scopes are doing and holding up on rifles with a lot of recoil. Are you happy with them and would you buy anotherone. Are you having any issues with them? Sorry for the questions but Ive always had Nikons. There are not any dealers around here so I want to know as much as I can before I order a scope Ive never seen or looked threw. So far what I can tell by pictures Ive seen threw the scope is the glass looks good and probably better than my Nikons. If your wondering why I dont put a Nikon on it is everyone I talk to that has the rifle Ive got cant get enuff MOA out of it to reach out there and touch someone. So any information and experiences you may have with this particular scope would greatly be appreciated.

Go SWFA 5-20.
I have had 2 of them (pst) in my hands and they were not as nice as the 5-20.
Reviews have been done here on them...

For under a grand I think it is hard to beat the Sightron SIII 6-24.

The scope Nazis ... hahahaha! Thanx mr Cummins, I was really in need of a goooood long laugh
Jaja, maybe me also I've been a little too hard with the Vortex Vipers in the past ... OK: I can admit that for the price the stuff is quite a good scope [... now that they explained me that they are coming from the Phlippines, under American quality control, and (this is the MAIN point) without any schei*ser "Chinese protoplasm" inside!!] Hahaa!
Enjoy the 338LM: it's a GREAT caliber!

PS: I assume when U wrote "NF" this was a misspelling for "ZF" alias Zielfernrohr, right?

Ahy ahy! Thnx Mr Tahqua, I was SUSPECTING this! (just kidding)
BTW: are really the NF significantly highly priced than Vipers?

For the same features, such as ffp, matching reticle/turrets, and illumination a NF is going to cost almost three times what the PST does. That being said, NF has a stellar reputation as being one the most robust scopes on the market.

If it is tourist season, why can't we shoot them?

Yep! THREE times more! Thanks for the info Mr. I was not aware of so much a difference.
Robustness is a good thing; then let me add that scopes are high precision equipment and shall be kept and mantained as such. Glass is glass; one cannot use scopes as hammers. This to say that probalby the robustness alone does not justify a price 3 times higher

I think Nightforce executives have nightmares featuring SS scopes just about every night.

Bitterroot $ SVT, do you guys really think the glass in the SS is noticeably better than NF? Thats interesting, and exciting.

I was speaking from a value perspective, not glass quality. I own a couple of the older SS scopes and like them a lot, but don't have first hand knowledge of the SS 5-20. I just wouldn't even consider a similarly configured Nightforce scope, personally.

The 2012 version of the viper seems to be better than the one's they had last year. According to my friend who has one the glass seems to be better, the rubber grip in the zoom ring has been replaced with a more durable material, and there seems to be a minor alteration with the sf knob. They also now are offered in the ebr2 milrad reticle as well as a new 2.5 to 10 x32 first focal plane model with sf adjustments down to 35 yards. These units are already assembled and packed here at the plant and the plant has already sold the reruns and display units as they are allowed to as per agreement with the companies they are in contract with, which are fully functional but have some defects or scratches in the case of the reruns and have no argon gas in the case of the display or prototype units. Sorry for the jibber but i just wanted to explain why my friend already has one. I've posted before about one which i got on the black market here before it apparently hit the market there and was scrutinized for it. I now am working my way to legally acquire a rerun from the factory, i won't mind some minor scratch or ding as long as it's argon filled. Edited by FunShot - February/13/2012 at 21:40 |
