My eyes ain't what the used to be and I need a better spotting scope for target shot spotting at ranges from 100-200yds for now - later maybe 300-600yds when I get good enough to hit something smaller than a mountain at that range. A buddy gave me a Barska 15-45 but I can't hardly make out 30 caliber holes at 100yds much less 223 at 200yds. I've spent too much money on shooting sports this year so I can't go nuts - plus I may need another rifle scope soon.  Being a fan of Bushnell rifle scopes and noticing that they are one of the few offering a lifetime warranty I've started my search there. My budget is limited to about $250 and I've been reading up on the Discoverer 15-60x60 and the Legend 20-60x60. I wish I could afford the 20-60x80 but it's a lot of money and probably overkill.

My first instinct was to jump on the sightly up market Legend but the reviews of the Discoverer seem a lot better. Any reviews? Thought? Suggestion? Anybody tried both? Is the 20-6x80 that much better than the 20-60x60? Anything better in this $200-300 price range.

The Discoverer is a good scope.  It was for many years (when marketed under the Bausch and Lomb name) considered a staple of the birding scene.  The downside to this scope is that it is pretty heavy, quite long, and has no weather proofing of any kind. The image it offers however, is very good.  It is definitely up to the tasks you have outlined.

Good luck with your scope.  Please give us an update with your impressions when you have had a chance to try out.
