I'm considering the SS 5-20 for a range toy, debating Illuminated vs non. For those that have the Illumination, how often do you find yourself using it during the day?

On my Viper PST, I don't use it much. I have other scopes for night hunting etc.

I can't recall ever needing illumination for daylight range trips.

I've never used it during the day.

I've never truly NEEDED an IR in daylight, but use it sometimes... when shooting into shade, it helps sometimes, but is not "necessary".  Sometimes very early or very late in the hunting day, I've used it.  Did I "need" it, probably not.  But I like every advantage I can have.  On low visibility days, I use it for convenience.  I hog hunt in Texas a lot... it is 24/7 there... and I always use IR.  Draws my eye instantly to the center.  I could, and have, done without, but when it is available, I always purchase the IR... just in case.

While I agree with the previous post, better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.
