Folks,

I'm fairly new to this and am looking for some expertise from you.

I need to purchase a scope for my new Bushmaster 450 AR rifle that has a flat top and Picatinny rail.  Will also need risers.  I plan to use it to shoot wild pigs at a maximum distance of 250/300 yards and it’s not important for me to spend a lot of money or buy an overpriced name.  Please keep in mind that I'm willing to spend more money if it's justified.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Check out Seekins rings if you want something less than "AR" high mount.

450 BM is good to 300?

Seems to me you'd want like a 1.5-6 or something in that range and shoot out to about 200 yards, but if really going 300 I really like the Trijicon 3-9 I finally got on my AR.  Get one with Mil dots and you'll have some reference for those longer shots...

Could take a look at the new SS 1-6.  With the current coupon code, you can get a smoking deal on the scope.  It is illuminated so you could hunt at night no problem.  I have a 1-4 in a SWFA Bobro mount, and I think that is one of the best ways to mount a scope on a flattop AR.

I used a SS 1-4 on my 450 for a while and tried a few others.  Out to about 250 is really stretching it for it being effective enought to put down a pig of much size.  Really want to get a scope you can dial in with as the bullet drops, allot.  I found that for the max range I used, 200, 1-4 was fine.  A good 1-6 Like the SS would be great on a 450.

Do you think the ss 1-6x24 will ever make it to the marketplace?  Is there another alternative you might recommend?

It will eventually make it and be worth the wait if you really need that type of optic.

I agree, I think a 1-4 would suffice. I ran one on a .50 Beo for a while and loved it. There is also some DEMO-B's on the samplelist at good prices right now, both capped and exposed.

if you do much dialing the exposed is nice, if your a set it and forget it guy that uses a bit of kentucky windage to hold over, go capped.  for the bushmaster round, i'd go capped with a 150 yd zero
