Santa Claus was nice to me and brought me a new SWFA SS 10x42 scope for Christmas.  I must say by far the best scope I have ever seen for $300 dollars.  Every thing tracked and worked as it should.  Because of the clarity of the glass I pulled out my Vortex PST 6-24x50 scope and compared them side by side at a side of a garage that is 111 yards from my garage.  I was surprised to find that the SS was a clearer image then the Vortex, but the Vortex was slightly brighter.  My question to the scope guys out there is there that much of a difference between 42mm obj. and the 50mm obj.  Obviously there is but I didn't think it was be noticeable under good lighting.  My wife bought me the SS based on a review she saw on You Tube by Rex Reviews and I have to say everything he said was true and a very fair review.

Welcome to the OT Forums blt65! IMO, for most typical dawn to dusk hunting scenarios, the difference between a 50 and a 42 objective is negligible (assuming comparable glass, coatings, etc).

I have a 3-9x42 and a 4-16x50. Both are Nitrex Tr-One scopes by Weaver. During legal shooting hours, the view through the scopes is almost identical. The 50mm is brighter, but with the 42 the images appear to have more depth and seem more "high def" if that makes sense. The 50mm does allow me to see longer, but it provides no benefit as I cannot legally hunt at that point. Overall, I like the 42. It works just as well and is much more compact and handy on a hunting rifle. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the welcomes and Mbar308 thanks for confirming my eyes as your results were exactly what I saw...it was about four p.m. but the garage was in the shadows of pine trees.
