I am needing a scope for my Steyr 6.5X55 rifle.  It is a lite weight rifle not a tactical machine.  I have been looking at the Bushness Elite 4200 2.5-10X50 with Ill #4 or the Meopta R1 4-16X44 tactical.  I like the illumination on the B&L but like the adjustible knobs on the Meopta.  What do you guys think?  This will primarily be a hunting rifle at 400 yars and closer.  Or maybe something else in the $500-600 range.

Thanks

I have a Bushnell 4200 3-9x and a Meopta Artemus 3-9x, the Meopta has much better glass and is a nicer scope in my opinion.  The Meopta you are asking about is even a step up from the one I have.  I vote for the Meopta.

For the price it is hard to beat the Zeiss Conquest in about that range. I've had mine on several trips out West and it has performed great. Very clear and very well made. I think they are on sale right now too.

Unfortunatly I am at work right now and can't check on the Zeiss.  Our new web filter hates SWFA's website.  I would deffinatly consider them.

I managed to get to the sample list (go figure).  The Zeiss Conquests there say that the knobs are finger ajustable.  How easy are they to use if you are putting a couple click of windage or elevation on.  I like the numbered turrets so you would know were you started and finished at.  But the prices on the sample Zeiss are good.   Thanks for all the input so far.

Hey P230,  I have both the Meopta 4-16x44 stainless (Remington MilSpec 5-R .308) and Conquest 4.5-14x50 (Remington Model Seven SS Magnum in 7mm SAUM).  When sitting on my deck just at dark, the Meopta performs better.  Not much, but enough to justify the purchase.  Plus, Alex Roy at eurooptic.com has them on sale for $525 right now.  Very hard to beat that deal!  It's a great scope.  BTW, I had to return my Zeiss to the factory because the tactical turret retainer for elevation was not installed correctly.  Bummer!  It's still there...  I envision buying more Meopta scopes.  The tactical on my 5-R is awesome!  And I'm picky about stuff like that.

i have used the elite 4200 w/ the illuminated reticle and it's excellent in the lowlight.

i also have a meostar R1 and it's also excellent in the lowlight. i would give the slight nod to the meostar but the 4200 is an amazing scope - my favorite 4200 - if it's for hunting, i have to go w/ the 4200, out of those two.  if you can live w/ the 50mm R1 for hunting (#4 reticle) - you would get SLIGHTLY better glass.

my 2 cents.

J
