Which would you prefer for 100-200yd paper shooting and why? Why does the Bushnell 4200 Elite get a 6 rating on Chris Farris' Scope List and the SS10x42 get a 4? Thanks in advance for your time. Also if anyone happens to know if I can get away with Burris Xtreme Tactical rings for either or both of these scopes if I use the Low rings, do I need to get Medium height?

100-200 yard paper shooting?  Why spend more money than you need to?   SS!!!

I do not personally think the SS is in the same league as the Elite 4200's.  THe Elite is much better glass IMO.

I can't rate the SS because I don't own one. I do own a 4200 and it's a fine scope. Based on what little information that you've given us - if all that you're doing is 100-200yd daylight paper punching with a reasonable caliber rifle then I'd probably save some money and buy a Weaver V16 or V24. For hunting I'd be looking at something lower powered and in the 4200's class.

Which 4200 model are you considering?? The OP's question is too vague.

Burris LOW rings with a 42mm SS or same sized objective 4200.

the rankings do not mean its a bad scope, there is a ton of criteria to factor that rating out, its not a hunting scope so its going to score lower in a lot of those areas, if all you want to do is punch paper at 100-200 buy a ss 10x

look at what made up the list

The scale below was formed by SWFA sales staff, customer service, pro-staff and owners using personal experience, customer input and facts supplied by the manufacturers.  The ranking system is based on the following criteria (in order of importance and weight).

1.  Optical Quality - How bright and clear the scope is.

2.  Specifications - Field of view, eye relief, weight, adjustment travel, etc.

3.  Durability - How do they with stand the test of time.

4.  Special Features & Options - Proprietary items (reticles, design, turrets), Zoom ratio.

5.  Warranty & Customer Service - How good are they.

6.  Value - Bang for your buck.

I like the 4200 which has better optics and is plenty of scope for 200 yard paper shooting. You need high rings for a 42mm bell. The SS is decent but at the 200 yard mark the 4200 is a better choice.
