I own both of these scopes...sitting in the boxes waiting to be mounted.

3.5 x 10  Sightron II Big Sky  (50mm)  plex ret
2.5 x 10  Bushnell Elite 4200 (50mm)  firefly ret

I want to mount on a browning Abolt 7 mag and put a bdc knob on one of the two.  Current max range will be to 400 yards (i am not proficient enough at longer ranges...yet).  White tail sized game is the intended use. Low light shooting will be more of the norm.  49 years old and glasses wearer.  Looking through both they seem very similar.

Experienced suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks

with the low light, i would say the firefly reticle will help out and be my go too, plus the rainguard is nice.

Both are very decent scopes. I'd lean towards the Sightron though (not really a fan of the firefly reticle). The rainguard (on the Bushy) is nice, but the Sightron has a similar coating.

I talked with someone at Kenton last week and they said they could do a knob for either scope.  I hope they gave me accurate info.

i had a bushnell 4200 2.5-10

i have a 3-12x42 big sky.

Pretty dang tough choice. I'd say the 4200 was slighly better image but never handled them next to eachother. Had a nikon monarch 3-12 and the 4200 was definently better image.

Overall I like the big sky. The optics are comparable and the magnification range is just right for the varmint weight .223 its on. The gun does double duty coyote whacker  and varmint killer.
The only good coyote is a dead one.

The big sky already has resettable covered turrets.  Not a BDC knob, but one that can be used to make easy adjustments.
Lifetime warranty and excellent customer service don't mean a thing when your gun fails during a zombie attack.

This is a good topic for me to follow, because I'm basically in the same situation as you, except I have a Big Sky 3 x 9 w/HHR reticle, and a Bushnell Elite 4200 2.5 x 10 w/Firefly reticle, both NIB.  Age, glasses, and and range are about the same for me, and I can't really decide between the two, either.  One will go on a pre-64 Model 70 30-06 to replace the vintage K4 on it.  Leaning towards the Big Sky right now, just cause I like the looks and the reticle.  The Elite was supposed to have been a 3 x 9, but the guy was out of stock and sent me the 2.5 x 10 Firefly for the same price I was paying for the 3 x 9.  It's a nice scope also.

I went with the sightron and the original knobs.  Not quite as easy as the Kenton but cheaper.
