Does anyone have any experience with this scope?I was thinking of getting one(with firefly) for late afternoon hunting in woods or would the 3-9x40 be better?

well if your looking for the better scope of the two for those last min. of legal hunting in the woods take the little guy you will have better light transmission with the lower power.

I have both. The heavier reticle of the 1.5-6 is better in low light. The 3-9 is on clearance for $230. The Firefly is a gimmick IMHO. The illumination of the crosshairs actually allows you to see less. In low light all you can see is green. The uncharged reticle of the 1.5-6 shows up really well even by moonlight due to it's thickness, so the Firefly 3-2-1 works as long as you don't charge it with light. Both scopes work well past legal shooting time. I would think that the exit pupil would be adequate on either at 3 power and below. I believe the 1.5x36 or 3x40 both transmit an exit pupil larger than the eye can use.

I have both optics you refer to , and would give the nod the the 1.5 x 6 if you're shooting at larger game within 200 yds or so ( I have mine a 45/70 and 338 Win Mag ) ..otherwise, go with the 3x9....

As far as the reticle goes..I used the Marlin 1895  45/70 on a Black Bear hunt in Canada last year, and the reticle showed up just fine on the dark hide . I haven't had an opportunity to try the firefly yet, so I can't comment on it .
