I'm about to scope my RRA Varmint A4 but need some advice on scope power. This  rifle will be used to hone my long range shooting skills at 400-600 yards but will see most use in the 100-300 yard range (I'm not hunting or paper punching with this).  I'm looking at several 3-9 & 4-12 power scopes with BDC and am trying to figure out if it's worth spending the extra money for a 4-12. Seems like the 4-12 would provide an advantage at longer ranges  but wouldn't make that much difference at shorter distances. Looking at Leupold Mark AR 3-9 & 4-12, Zeiss Conquest 3-9 and Nikon M-223 in 3-12 (which eliminates the decision).  Any feedback on the power question and/or scopes listed would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

If you not paper punching for groups 3-9 would be plenty.  Of the three you listed I believe the Zeiss would be the best glass.  After that the Nikon would be my pick.

Are you set on those three?  if not what price range are you trying to stay under?  Also if you not going to be using it less than 100yds you may be better suited with a fixed power.  the SS 10X would be a great scope to practice that type shooting with.

For what you are doing, I would go with the Ziess.  It's glass is better and I have found that glass is better than magnification. JMO.   Otherwise, I would go with a SS10X.  Good Luck!

Low spark...of high heeled boys.
Couldn't resist. Great tune.

Concur with the others, the 10x SS would probably suit you.

+3 for the 10xSS/comes with a 30mm tube & looks much cooler then the Conquest on AR riffles. If you want better glass go with Zeiss.

I scoped my Remington R-15 with a Burris Signature Select 3-12x44 with the Ballistic Plex reticle.
I hunt coyotes with mine and wanted both close and long range capability and it does the job well so far.
It's my third Sig Select and I'm sold on them.

I think the best choice for an AR-15 is the 3-9 Super Sniper.  It will really help to develope your skills and if you are shooting multiple distances you need to be dialing in correction for trajectory so a True Tactical Scope is the way to go. If you were just taking the rifle out to hunt coyotes a 3-9 Zeiss Conquset would be plenty but once you push past 300 yds everything changes and you need to be able to make correction for trajectory and wind drift.  I would mount using LaRue Tactical quick detachable 30mm scope mount - I have one and it works better than everything else. The GG&G and the BOBRO are a very close second choice though and I have a GG&G on one rifle and love it.  My thought is if I can buy a 4-16x40 Bushnell 4200 why in the world would I buy a 4-12 anything, and if Im not getting at least 4.5 to 14.5 like Leupold or Zeiss why give up that 3x which you need for closer distances.  I will also say that I am a huge fan of the Trijicon Compact ACOG illuminated scopes on an AR-15  I have two of them one is a 1.5x the other is a fixed 3x and they are sub moa at 300 yds so for a rifle you use they are the cats meow.  The scope on the rifle is a fixed 6x Super Sniper and the 3x Compact ACOG and a Aimpoint Comp M4 are on the bench.
