Hey guys - I just picked up a Browning BAR Safari with the BOSS system (reduced recoil) in 7MM Mag. For my scope choice I have decided to go with a Swarovski American. I have the choice of a 3x9x36 or a 3x10x42. Which way should I go? I have read that Swaro reccomends the 30 for Magnum calibers, but I am thinking with the BOSS system- I may be aboe to go with the 42 to allow in more light and not have to worry about the magnum aspect.

What do you guys think?

I think with the BOSS system you are right you could go either way.  Remember that you can dial the power down to brighten up the scope in low light. There are some good deals on Samplelist   http://www.samplelist.com/

I have both scopes that you mention. IMO, either would be fine. The 36 may "look" more in scale with the rifle, but neither is huge. I'm sure you will be pleased with all aspects of these fine scopes.

The 42mm objective is fine, only for a light weight rifle would I opt for a smaller bell. The 30mm gives you more adjustment with a little more light gathering ability. The Swaro glass is top notch.

If you can look through both, do so and make your choice from there.  That's what I've done when I've been on the fence between two scopes.

I have the 4-12x42 AV scope on a Browning BOSS .280 and have had no problems.  I think that the 42mm objective is fine for the 7mm Mag, particularly on the BAR which has lower recoil anyhow.
