Yes, it is the handgun cartridge but in an H&R single shot rifle.  Bought it on a whim and have yet to shoot it.  Reloading some 2,000 fps 158's and 1,700 fps 180's for fun and maybe a few tiny FL deer.

I have a red dot and was going to use that but the battery went...very quickly with the power "off"...irritated me.  So I want a scope with a regular recticle, good without battery.

Looking for best bang for buck.  I can not justify a $300+ scope on a $175 gun that's only good for 100 yards.  (I use Leupy's on my hunting rifles -  - just can not justify the $$$ on a low use gun - the reloading is purely for stress relief...)

Recoil should be pretty soft.  Will lean towards some low light capabilities.  Would like a 2-7 or 1-4 or similar power scope...

Did I say CHEAP?  Under $150 for sure.  Burris FFII is tempting at $139.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Either the Viper listed above or a fixed power 4X. There are several good ones that won't break the bank. The Weaver 4X38 @ $135 isn't half bad or the Sightron SII @ $187 is a step up.

I also like the Viper for this application, but the Weaver v3 mentioned above is also a great inexpensive scope.

I received my Vortex Viper 2-7x32.

Very nice - crisp clean picture.  Used it on a H&R single shot .357mag rifle.  Could easily see the bullet holes at 100 yards, perhaps better than my Redfield Illuminator (original version).

I'm well pleased with it.
