Guys, I am new on the site. I just ordered a new Remington 700 CDL in 35 Whelen from Grice's in PA. Anybody got any ideas of a suitable scope for it? I have several different brads and am partial to Leupold Vari-X III, Burris Signature, Zeiss Conquest, Kahles, etc...

I have a 1.75-6 Leupold on my 375 and might go with that, but am also thinking of a 2.5-8 VX III......

what a nice gun. my gun-o-september is going to be a cdl in 270. the only scope i have found that looks good on this gun (IMHO) is the VXIII, and the 2.5-8 would serve you well. theres is a pic on the cover of G&A september issue with a cdl with a VXIII scope on it for a very good example.

Redneck, thanks for the reply. I am thinking about any of those III's would be fine, I am just of a practical mind. I guess it might have to be a 2.5-8. Do you know of anyone that has any or the old VARI-x's left besides SWFA, (competitor), or Bearbasin???

either of the 1.75-6x32's would work fine for it aswell. too bad they dont have a matte finished 2.5-8 on there.

Whelenator, with the scopes you mentioned there are no bad choices. I will echo the redneckbmxer on your selection of the 700 CDL. Great gun with great looks. Based on your choices of scopes, I would probably go with the following, even though their all good:

Kahles 3-9x42

Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40

Burris SS 3-10x40

Leupold VX3 3.5-10x40

Between the Kahles and the Zeiss it would be a toss-up for 1st and 2nd place with the Zeiss being less money  and their so close it would probably be a matter of personal preference. They are both excellent choices.

Between the Burris SS and the Leupold, I would probably give the nod to the Burris. It's a better value.

P.S. Don't rule out my favorite, the Elite 4200 2.5-10 x40. The Elite offers the most versatility with it's wide power range, value and unique features that the others don't have. Happy hunting!!!
