Can anyone recommend a scope? I am a long time Leupold user. I just bought a 375 H&H to take to africa. I was wanting a 30mm scope but I cant decide. Since it's hard to find a dealer that has all of the scopes to look at hands on. So I want a 1.5-6x42, but I cant decide which one. I'm looking at Kahles,Nikon,Swarovski and Leupold LPS. I don't like some of these where the crosshairs get larger with increased magnification. Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

Leupold stopped making the LPS in 1.5-6 due to problems they could not fix (supposedly).  The Kahles and Swarovski are both 1st plane reticles (gets larger).  That leaves the Nikon 1.5-6x42 Monarch Gold......$499.99.  It has a 2nd plane reticle but it is large and appears the same as a 1st plane scope on 6x.

If you can get over the 1st plane reticle system the Swarovski is by far the best of the bunch.  Keep in mind that the reticle does not cover any more of the target on the low power vs. the high power as it grows in proportion to the target.  The American style 2nd plane reticle actually covers less on the high power setting because the target increased in size and the reticle did not increase in size.  The European style 1st plane reticle is excellent for close range brush, dangerous game, running targets or for shooting in low light.  Don't knock the 1st plane reticle until you have tried one in an actual hunting environment.

Chris, thanks for the info. Do you what the differences are between the Swarovski and the Kahles? Some real facts and personal opinions are fine................wapiti7
