IOR fits my bill for a non-caliber specific mil based rectile system. Now I need to chose the most appropriate scope.

Firearm use: must be able to lead me to a decent engagement on a 3 gun course, i.e. fun practical shooting from 25 to 400 yds. But also refined enough to allow me to dial in the SOCOM with handloads and TAP. So I guess in 'tactospeak' I need a fine IOR MBR scope that would literally make love to my SOCOM with the right loads.

Choice:3x25CQB or 4x24 M1 308 MP-9 or 1.1-4x26CQB (my current choice) or 1.5-8x26IllumCQB-4A (aren't these hard to find?)

Lets hear what your 'professional' choice is and the rational.

I would say your choice of 1.1-4x26CQB is a good one. I also like the 3x25CQB; it is simple. I have used 4x scopes in moderately close environments and felt they were acceptable down to just about the 25 meter mark - you just learn to keep both eyes open and put the 'bright' circle on the the target. The key is having a decent sized exit pupil. The 8mm of the 3x25 should be fine. If you want to do really close drills (under 25 meters), definitely go with the adjustable lower power.

How are you planning on mounting it? I'm thinking an Aimpoint Comp M4 on the SOCOM scout rifle type base.

If you come off the side of the reciever I am thinking I like that 1.5-8 IOR or a low power Trijicon but then you have the cheekweld problem to deal with. Those guns are ment to be CQB guns not sniper guns and the best setup is really a 1x either an Aimpoint, Trijicon tri power, Trijicon reflex , or EOTECH or a 1x Burris short mag.

Well I found my optic and changed my firearm ideas. I have a smith mount for the side so I wanted to go that way. Oh yes the important point. I changed to a Vltor stock. AWESOME!!!!! Now I am just going to keep it with iron sights.

Yes, I bought a 3X25 CQB, totally the best and WORTH THE MONEY. But I am going to mount it on my SIG556.
