Still undecided on what power scope to put on my Sako 300wsm... the 2 choices are Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10x or the 4.5-14x... most of my hunting will be in Ny for deer but have several trips planned out west for elk, mulies, and whitetails...

300WSM... power and range.  Why not go for the best "vision" you can have, based upon your two choices.  4.5x14 gives you adequate low end but extends your ability to resolve the target at longer range.  I like good glass and magnification. You get both with your 4.5-14 option.

Can't go wrong with either, both scopes should meet all your hunting needs and excel optically.

I like the 3.5-10 for your uses.  Parallax adjustment would be one less thing to worry about in a hunting situation.

Given the two choice I would go with the 4.5-14 but most of those have the target knobs and I think the Z600 reticle would be the correct choice for that rifle so the 3.5-10 makes sense too.  I have a 4-16x40 4200 Bushnell on my 300 WSM and I am willing to give up a little on the low end to get a lot more on the high end because I hunt from a fixed position most of the time rather than stalking.  I also do like the illuminated Trijicon Accupoint 5-20x50.  It's hard to beat the power range of the Swarovski scopes above though.

I'm going a little against the grain of some pretty sage advice from some guys that really know their schtuff, but I'm thinkin' the good old 3-9 Conquest will do you as good a job and save a little coin for those trips and out-of-state tags.
Myself I would rather have the lower power for the whitetails and elk in the timber than trade it for the upper end. 9x will work pretty well on the longer shots at big game.
I also hunt many times from a vantage point and guard saddles bottlenecks, etc. with a constructed rest, but more than once I've had to adjust my position and sometimes "go in after them". Being versatile will put quarters on the meatpole.
However with some of todays 6x mag ranges, you can have the best of both worlds, with me liking the 2-12x most of all.

Thats what I would get.  9x is plenty for typical hunting distances, and having 3x on the bottom is always a plus.

I have a 300wsm myself, and am still undicided about the scope, but I certainly like the options of a 2-12. Great low end FOV, and ability to reach out to 600yds. Looks like more options are coming out all the time in this mag range.

I have asked quite a few questions and received a lot of very good info from a member here.
Then went around the net, reading about Burris reliability, and glass quality. My assement is that Burris is very tough for hunting, and the glass is not top end but quite good as well. The big knock with some is their CS. If Trijicon built something closer even in a 3-12x40 or so I would buy it right now, but they don`t, so unless something else comes up very quickly that appears to be a better buy, I will be buying a Burris 2-12x40 with a lit reticle. I was going to buy a swarovski Z4i 3-12 but the fov is much smaller, and the elevation and windage adjustments actualy are quite poor. I just can`t bring myself to spend almost 3 times as much for the Z6i over the Burris, and I am not finding any other good mid high end with a lit reticle in 2-12 or 3-12. I think that the conquest does have some advantage in glass but not the features I am looking for unfortunatly
.

If you do not want a lit reticle, I would also consider the option Urimaginaryfrnd posted and consider the z5 3.5x18 swaro.

I like the BRH quite a bit.  I have been checking it out during more and more situations lately, and I think it should do quite well.

If I remember right Swarovski's 4a is pretty thin.
