I need a good spotting scope for the range and some hunting use. The more difficult service is for 223 and 308 target shootong out to 600 yards, although 300 yards is more frequent occurance.
I've been looking at the Leupold 12-40x60mm HD Golden Ring Spotting Scope , Bushnell Elite 20-60x80 Angled Spotting Scope, Bushnell Excursion FLP 20-60x80, Bushnell Excursion FLP 15-45x 60mm or even the Pentax PF-80ED.
Given the size and weight of the Pentax and Bushnell Elite, I'm leaning more toward the other three, but I'm concerned that the remaining scope may be marginal at 300 yards and unusable at 600.  I selection basis in order is ,  quality, durability, warranty and reasonable weight.
Given these selections, which one would you recommend?

IMO you'll need a 80-85mm class spotter to try and do that.  I said try because atmospheric conditions will dictate how usable the zoom is.  If that were my criteria, I'd look at the Pentax 80Ed, Nikon Fieldscope 82ED, and even a Brunton Eterna.   If hunting/portability were my first criteria I'd  consider that Leupold Gr Hd, and a Kowa Prominar 663/664.

The Pentax is a great scope, I ran one for several years.

Your chances of seeing .223 or .308 holes at 600 yards without shoot-n-see targets is incredibly slim, especially in your price range.  At 300 yards, no problem for the Pentax or Nikon.

600 is a good distance, you will not see bullet holes at 600 unless conditions are perfect and you double or triple your budget - and probably not then either.

Agree with Rancid. I've got a Swaro 80mm and .223 holes are hard to see at 300 yds, much less 600... Shoot and C targets might work tho..
