I'm pretty set on the Super Sniper 10 x 42, but I would like to know if there is anything in the price range that might be better for a 100 - 1000 yard tactical scope.  I realize that I should be spending > $1000 to scope my Savage, but I just don't have the cash. . . .period!

What do you plan to shoot. Traget, life size, or varmints?

I plan to shoot big game, varmints and targets.  I'm building the rifle for a big game hunt this fall.  The plan is for it to be of a long range tactical rifle design.  It will be about 15 lbs in all.  The scope will probably be mounted in a TPS or maybe Farrell mount and rings.

I need the scope to have:

30 mm tube - for getting on target from 100 - 1000 yards.

Target Turrets - for dialing in come ups and windage

Mil dots or similar - for ranging(although I will be using laser mostly) and for quick elevation and windage.

Parallax adjust - for accuarcy of focus at short to long range.(to eliminate parallax)

I to have built a long range Savage 10FLP tactical rifle in .308 Currently I'm trying a Burris Fullfield II 4.5-14 X 42mm. It is an excellent scope for 300 - 400 yards. Everyone's eye sight is different. This scope is selling for $250 to $290 on the street. It has the Ballistic Plex reticules which I like. It is only a one inch scope but dont need a 30mm if you don't use elevation turrets to line up cross hairs for object at long distance. I don't think your going to have the time to adjust your elevation to make a long shoot on whitetail, coyotes and varmints. A ground squirrel may sit on his hole for a few minutes, but changes are your going to see another one closer and change you mind.

The only other scope I'm considering is the new 6-18 X 50mm Burris Fullfield II Peep Plex.
It is a fine crosshair with a small circle in the middle. It has adjustable turrets for windage and elevation.

You just described the Super Sniper, my friend.

"Tactical" scopes are just not inexpensive. The SS is a hell of a buy at $299 or you can go side focus for $399.

Reply, I'm glad to hear Super Sniper  more than once.  It was a sure thing for me, but I was concerned since it is at the bottom of my price range.  I thought something mid to top of my price range might be a better fit.  . . .I need to quit second guessing myself.

I work for a High Dollar Car manufacturer, I can afford to own one, but I drive a Ford.  Function over form, Ya it may not be racey but it gets the job done.

I really like the Super Sniper 10x for a tactical rifle. I think the side focus would be worth the extra $.

You are right about needing the 30mm tube.

If you are serious about ranging using the mildots buy a mildot master and I recommend the lens shade and scope caps.

You might want a Badger plus 20 moa base and Badger rings, but at least the base.

Well, I looked at the Burris 3-12 tactical model last night.  It looks nice enough.  They had it for $612.  Is this a good price for the non-illuminated?  Is it better than the Super Sniper, or just a variable?  Also, what is the allen wrench looking thingy in the elevation turret.  The salesman had no idea.  How is the glass in this scope?  Would I be getting better glass?  If I would, I would consider this scope as long as everything else was about equal.  BTW. . .I really couldn't rate the glass because the store is about 20 yards long and it was 800PM dark outside with about 2 minutes left before closing time.  At the time, I couldn't bring myself to spend the money.  Besides the side parallax is actually a disadvantage for me because I'm missing my left hand.  Missing my hand really doesn't affect shooting in other ways, but side parallax would have me reaching over the scope to adjust.  A little bit PITA.

Here's some info from Sniper's Hide. I'm sure theres more, so you could just do another search like I did.

Maybe koshkin on here has fooled with it.

Well, I figured out the allen wrench thingy.  I called Burris.  It really is an allen wrench.  Just pick it out and use it.

I also looked a Sniper's hide.  I saw some info and some other stuff on the Nikons.

Also, when I talked to Burris, they said that the glass in this scope was the best quality glass.  I realize that is phrased as an unsubstanciated claim, but. . .I also tried to make the comparison to the Leupold Mark 4 and the Burris rep said their scope was as good.  For what it is worth, . . .I think they really didn't have anyway to explain to dumb ol' me how good this scope was and they didn't really want to directly compare to other brands which I understand.

It's for zeroing your target knob, right?

You are now comparing a scope that cost twice as much. My thought on this is that you probably need to realize that you will get more for twice the money, but you are also paying more.  The glass on this Burris is quite good the scope focuses much closer than my Leupold Mark 4 Tacticals (things start coming into focus at 50 to 75 yds). I think the Burris Tactical should be a good scope but I have recently had unacceptable service from Burris two times. I'll show you a couple of others to consider but for $300 nothing touches the Super Sniper.
