Can you use 30 mm scope rings with a scope that has a 1' tube diameter? Thanks

I wouldn't ... you can put spacers in ... but I would get another set of rings.

It would be temporary. I would like to take the scope off of my .270 and put it on my .308, just for this summer, prolly 2 or 3 shooting competitions. That way I can compete this summer without having to dish out the $600 or so for the scope that I want right now for the .308. Or, I could just pull the scope rings off the .270 and put those on my .308.
See, I already purchased Seekins Precision Rail & 30 mm rings, becuz they fit the scope i will get here eventually. My .270 has a 1 inch scope, Nikon 6680 5.5-16.5 Titanium Rifle scope on it. |

Rather a 1 inch tube diameter. Where do they sell these spacers?? Would you recomend putting the seekins rail and rings on with the 1" scope from the .270, or just pulling the whole rig off the .270 and throwing it on my .308. Thanks

I would hit up the local store and get some warne or burris 1 inch rings (weaver style) for $30 and roll with it. Finding some spacers that will fit your seekins rings might be rough. I have never shopped for them myself. Weaver style rings will fit your Seekins Rail and are easy to find in 1 inch. |

Don't try to use spacers unless the rings came with 1" inserts.

Shootin comp's with peiced together rings could cause serious frustration. Unless your one of the lucky ones who usually comes out ahead (rare). If you can find rings to fit the rail base go that route. Then you'll have them if you ever decide to use a 1in. on the 308. Otherwise it might be best to move everything from the 270 to the 308. Let us know how the comp"s go. Post pics if you can. Good luck!

Okay.. so here are a few pics of where I am right now.
I mounted the Seekins Precision Rail on my Rem 700P .308. I pulled my Nikon Titanium 5.5-16.5x44 AO Riflescope-6680 off of my Remington 700 XCR .270. On the advice of all of you, I am going to avoid the spacers (I don't even like the sound of spacers, lol). I am going to buy the Warne 1" Scope Rings that fit my Nikon, and also mount onto the Seekins Rail. I left the Leupold base and Rings on my .270, so when I get the scope that I am holding out for, I can simply throw my Nikon back on the .270, mount the Seekins 30 MM rings on my .308 with the new scope, and call it a day. I was going to get the SS 3-9x42, but I might hold out for the new SS 4.5-14.5 or so variable FFP, MIL/MIL scope that I hear they are going to prototype by the end of 2010. This scope won't match my rifle perfectly, but it is not a fashion show, just a tool. So I can live with that. (At least for a little while... I am very picky about my guns) :-) Here are some pics: |
