I have a Kahles american hunter in 3.5 x 10 x 50 and I am looking for another 50mm objective scope for dusk and dawn for another rifle.  Anyone have any experience with either of these two scopes?  The 3 x 9 x 50 is an ounce lighter and about an inch shorter.  I don't need 10 power but I am told the 3.5 x 10 x 50 is more popular than the 3x9 x 50 Conquest.  Your thoughts?

Welcome to Optics Talk, Mike.

No experience with either, but I had a 3.5-10x44mm Connie and it was a great scope. I'd get the 3-9x for hunting. Little lighter, shorter, and a bit less expensive.

Good shooting!

Compact scopes are a big plus on a hunting rifle and 3x9 is plenty to do the job. Especially with a 50mm objective and Zeiss glass.

+1 what cheaptrick said, 3x9x40.  It's the smart buy.

Welcome to O.T Mike52  I just traded a 3-9x50 that was a nice scope. used it alot at night and it worked real well. I think for the price difference i would go with the 3-9 for low light hunting.imo

i have the 3.5-10x50 its a nice scope but if i knew what i know now i would have bought the 3-9x50

the exit pupil on the 3-9x50 is 11.4-5.6

the 3.5-10x50 exit pupil is 11.4-4.8

so the 3-9x50 is not only cheaper to buy its also better in low light

Red Triangle Trijicon 2.5-10x56 Accu-Point 30mm Rifle Scope
Stock # - TR22R
  • Matte

I would rather have 2.5 than 3 and rather have 3 than 3.5 so if Zeiss Id go 3-9 but I really like the Trijicon accupoint
