OH GAWD!!!!    Mouth Taped Shut     The onliest way I could eat it was if it was fried to incineration like little popcorns or Sugar Pops......so that they crunched.....Bucky     ( but generally I just " said no" like Nancy Reagan.....)

We had some Austrians in town from Kahles one evening and took them to a regular restaurant that we'd normally go to, they appreciated it because they got to see what our local food was like.  Five star restaurants are pretty similar no matter what country you're in, plus we couldn't afford to take them to one and Red Oak doesn't have any five star restaurants.  Anyway one of them saw OKRA on the menu and asked us what it was.  I challenge you to try your hardest to describe okra to someone that has never seen or heard of it and make it sound appetizing......we ended up ordering them calf fries and didn't tell them what they were until their plates were clean. Wink

Being Austrian, the calf fries were probably not that exotic for them. (Other than being beef). Okra is better used in soups or cooked with tomatoes. If fried you usually get them over cooked, and they end up greasy. Grease and slime do not sit well together.

This was before the Masonic BBQ got big. This would be about 9 gal. My Dads recipe makes 3 gal in a batch. Health rules will not let you use the open pits like this anymore. My Dad is 3rd from the left. He passed away last July.
